Who We Are

The Bright Star is a Non-Profit Civic Company (registered with the Patras First Instance Court 880/2012) that aims to support impoverished families with children up to 18 years old.

The action

The initiative began with a group of people actively volunteering in the cities of Patras and Athens, who wanted to create a network of individuals and services to support the basic needs of children whose families are facing difficulties. Initially, the efforts were directed towards immediate needs for food and clothing, aiming to combat hunger through the collection of food donations, cleaning supplies, and essentials, which are distributed free of charge.

Volunteers

With the help of volunteers and friends, we strive to respond to every request. In an environment where conditions for many of our fellow citizens' families are worsening daily, we recognize that actions must aim not only to support children's immediate basic needs but also to help their families develop in a way that supports the children's proper development.

The network

A continuously expanding network that not only tries to alleviate the condition of the poor and vulnerable but also encourages volunteerism. It aims to serve as an incentive for offering and expressing solidarity in our daily lives and to unite social forces towards common action. This network addresses poverty and social exclusion prevalent in many populations of the Patras municipality affected by the economic crisis.

For this purpose, The Bright Star also provides psychosocial support and information services aimed at empowering and socially integrating the beneficiaries. It collects food, milk, grocery items, cleaning and personal hygiene products, frozen and fresh goods, toys, school supplies, etc.

The Social Workers' Team takes on the task of communicating with families to support parents in reintegrating into the local community, finding employment, and networking with health, welfare, and mental health support structures. Besides supporting families, it is equally important to support active citizens involved in helping The Bright Star reach every home in our area where a child up to 18 years old needs our help.

The Volunteers' Team is actively involved at The Bright Star by collecting items, sorting, and helping distribute them.

We are registered in the National Registry of Private Sector Non-Profit Entities providing Social Care Services (registry: 07226AE13097012N – 1461) and in the special registry of Non-Profit Organizations (registry: 07226AE13097012N – 1347) of the Ministry of Labor (General Secretariat of Welfare).
